Purim

A Jewish holiday celebrating the 5th-century BCE event recorded in the Book of Esther in which Haman, a vizier in the Achaemenid Persian Empire planned to eliminate the Jewish people, but was stopped by Mordecai and Esther. Feasting, charitable work, and public readings, and parades are staples of the holiday.
