Edith Bruder

Dr Edith Bruder is Research Associate at the French National Center for Scientific Research and at UNISA- University of South Africa and Senior Research Fellow at ISGAP, New York. She is the founding President of the International Society for the Study of African Jewry (www.issaj. com). Her main subjects of research are African Judaism and religious Diasporas, the representation of the Jews in African culture, globalization of religions, shifting religious identities and the discrimination of religious minorities. She is the author of The Black Jews of Africa, History, Identity, Religion (Oxford University Press, 2008 and 2012) and of Black Jews, Les Juifs noirs d’Afrique et le mythe des Tribus perdues (Albin Michel 2014) and of Juifs d’ailleurs. Diasporas oubliées, identités singulières (Albin Michel 2020 ), whose translation Jews from Elsewhere will be published by OUP ( forthcoming 2024).
