Beit Hamedresh

Bearing a name which translates from Hebrew to “Great Study House,” Beit Hemedresh is a historic Orthodox Jewish congregation in Manhattan, New York City. It was founded in 1852 by Rabbi Abraham Ash, before splitting into the Beth Hamedrash Hagodol congregation and Kahal Adath Jeshurun Synagogue in 1859. The congregation’s gothic revival building was closed in 2007, before a period of prolonged neglect and destruction by a fire in 2017.
