Book burning

Usually referring to the ritual destruction of books and written texts in public ceremonies, book burning embodies the censorship and repression of ideas which the books in question contain. A notorious book burning took place in 1933, when members of the Nazi party destroyed books with Jewish and liberal content, or indeed any sentiment perceived as dangerous to the new regime.
