Corrido
A type of musical ballad popularized in Latin America, particularly during the Mexican War of Independence and later the Mexican Revolution, Corridos often tell romanticized stories about history, folk tales, life on the frontier, or current topics relevant to audiences. During these conflicts, Corridos helped spread news and stories of the war as a form of mass communication, in addition to their entertainment value. Essentially a carefully structured, poetic “sung story,” a Corrido also features the singer greeting the audience directly, and emphasizing a moral lesson while bidding farewell after his performance.
