Judeo-Christian culture
A concept first succinctly expressed by George Orwell with his description of “the Judeo-Christian scheme of morals,” the conception of shared values underpinning Judaism and Christianity began to take root in the 20th century in response to antisemitism and fascism in Europe and America. Since the Second World War, the idea of Judeo-Christian values has become embedded in the American civic consciousness, being referenced in speeches by presidents such as Roosevelt, Eisenhower, and Johnson. In public discourse, it has been used to promote solidarity and understanding, and has been adopted by numerous political groups to describe and justify their stance.
