Modernist

Modernism denotes a broad philosophical movement which characterizes the changes undergone by Western Society around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, although some scholars argue that modernism or variants of it persist up to the present day. The basic tenets of modernism include rejection of previous philosophical schools such as Enlightenment thought, realism, and religious thought as well as new forms of art (including the development of abstract art), literature, music, and cinema. Traditions, social norms, and artistic methods are all eligible for critical examination, dissection, and parody in the attempt to create an overarching environment of art, philosophy, and social awareness befitting modern and industrialized society.
