Orthodox

Defined by strict adherence to Halakha, or Jewish Law, Orthodox Judaism refers to traditionalist branches of Judaism and not a single subgroup. These branches share an emphasis on the sanctity of the Written and Oral Torah. Orthodoxy emerged in the nineteenth century in opposition to the Reform movement and the Jewish enlightenment. Sometimes referred to by adherents as “Torah-true” Judaism.
