Maccabean Revolt

A Jewish revolt against Seleucid rule that lasted from 167 to 160 BCE. The rebels recaptured Jerusalem in 164, cleansed the temple, and rededicated the Altar on the 25th of Kislev- feats which would later be celebrated as Hanukkah. The success of the revolt allowed for Judean autonomy, and the creation of the Hasmonean Dynasty.
